Cobham Rugby

2016/17 Season Starts Sunday 4th September

Welcome to Cobham Rugby Club Minis Section.

Children are at the heart of everything we do at Cobham and we have a thriving minis section with over 500 children registered.

We welcome all players, both boys and girls of all abilities, from keen novices to potential internationals.

Our objective is to instill in our players confidence, determination and self-belief whilst developing agility, skills, fitness, teamwork and discipline both on and off the field.  We aim to encourage players to perform at the best of their abilities, to be gracious in victory, magnanimous in defeat and respectful to the officials, the opposition and their teammates.

We start at Under 5 by by teaching fundamental movement skills with the odd sponge rugby ball thrown in, with the major emphasis being on having fun with friends.  We then introduce Kids First Tag rugby at Under 7.  Contact is introduced in a controlled environment at Under 9 and then developed right the way through to playing a full contact game at Under 10 with kicking introduced at Under 11.  For more information about the specific RFU New Rules of Play for each age group, please click here.

Our coaches are encouraged and supported to attend RFU sanctioned courses and we run a number of these coaching and refereeing courses at the club throughout the year, resulting in us being able to offer the very highest quality of coaching in the minis section.

We work hard to ensure that all players from under U7 upwards and across the ability range have the opportunity of participating in games that involve other Rugby Clubs.  These include home festivals and fixtures as well as attending away fixtures as guests of clubs in the surrounding area.

From U8 upwards, the players and parents also get the opportunity to go on tour for a long weekend, which is always a highlight of the season.

We take the protection and safety of our players very seriously with a graduated introduction and development of the game in line with the RFU New Rules of Play and ensure that all on-field helpers are DBS checked and suitably qualified.

We have benefited from significant development work at the club, which enables us to provide a first class training facility for all of our players along with a state of the art clubhouse for the very important social element of the rugby club.

Our investment in the future of our club continues to make a marked difference in the enjoyment of rugby for our young players.

Training for the Under 5 to Under 9 age groups is held at the club’s Memorial Grounds off Fairmile Lane in Cobham on Sunday’s from 9.30am.  The Under 5’s and Under 6’s finish at 10.30am, whilst the Under 7’s, Under 8’s and Under 9’s all finish at 11.00am.

The Under 10’s and Under 11’s train on our Covenham Grounds on Sundays from 10am – 12pm.

Please check the specific age group areas of our website for more detailed information about each age group.

All of our players are fortunate enough to be supported by a large selection of keen and committed volunteers who form the network of qualified head coaches, coaches, managers, first aiders and helpers.

Cobham has a strong family and community focused ethos, which has served our club well as we have gone from strength to strength both on and off the sporting field, and parents are very much encouraged to be involved in the life of the club and the Minis Section in particular.

At times the focus does shift from the younger members to the not so young and we have a social calendar that takes in many different activities with the highlight being the summer ball.

We proudly bear the Savills logo and are hugely indebted to Savills for all they do to help us develop our young Cobham players.
