Cobham Rugby

U7 Home

The U7s are one of the strongest age groups within the Minis here at Cobham rugby club.  We are a dedicated team of very enthusiastic volunteer coaches, in both the coaching and the social side of rugby.  This year is an amazing transition year for the players where they become involved in competition with other clubs.  These experiences build on their previous two years training comprising of developing the players core skills, fundamentals of movement, coordination and balance, whilst keeping one eye on rugby skills, attack, defence, passing and most importantly sportsmanship.

U7s rugby offers the players their first experience in competition with other clubs as part of a small pool that covers the immediate area. These Mini festivals provide the players with their first taste of very gentle competition.

Within U7 we offer a zero streaming policy which ensures that all abilities, get an equal time on the pitch within the competitions.  This is important and proves to keep the kids playing for many more years. Here is a great video of how we will be playing our  games and gives you insight into the basic rules:

When we are not at our festivals, our training takes in the most basic rugby rules: passing backwards,  running forwards and keeping within our pitches.  The emphasis is on balance,  control, passing and being aware of our team mates.  These skills are taught through a series of fun games.  It may at times look very un-rugby like, but this is the key, as this keeps the interest high and enforces the basics from the ground up.

We practice from 9.30am to 10.30am on Sunday mornings on pitch 2 at the Memorial Ground (at Cobham RFC). There is parking at Munro House.  Bar and catering are open at the club house on Sunday mornings. We require that each child remains under the supervision of a nominated adult, i.e. no drop and go.
