Cobham Rugby

Ross Jones-Davies puts in man of the match performance and leads Cobham to a hard fought win over a physical Brighton Side.

Jean Louis-Gravier returned to 1stxv at fullback & lead the side out for his 65th & final cap before he heads north.

This was a physical match that Cobham tried to play at high tempo but at times lacked a clinical finish in the first half. Sam Matcham made his full debut at no8 with Matt Keop unavailable.

The first half was a tight affair with wing Max MacDonald opening the scoring, 5-0, flyhalf Jones-Davies scored Cobham's 2nd converted by himself 12-0. Brighton got a score back with a penalty in front of posts 12-3. Then just before half time Brighton got a 2nd penalty to close the gap to 12-6 at the break.

The 2nd half Cobham were playing away from the club house & were carrying on their high tempo game but found their clinical finishing, starting with Jones-Davies Scoring his 2nd try converted by himself 19-6. Cobham's third came courtesy of another break by Jones-Davies who looked like he was one on for his hatrick but fed the supporting Rooke to score under the posts. 26-6 with the conversion from Jones-Davies.

Cobham's bonus point try from a slick line out firstly from Richard Philip at hooker on for Jake Mcquade, Joe Goddard taking the ball off the top of the line out which set up the colossus that is Matt Goddard with one of his trade mark breaks in the line to score out wide. 31-6

Brighton got the next score from a rolling maul to score near the posts 31-13. But Cobham were not to be finished there & with substitutes on Nathan Spratt for Ali Porter & a re jig in the back line with flyhalf Oli Weir on, Cobham scored with Weir scoring under the posts set up by Jones-Davies now operating in the centre, Jones-Davies converting.
38-13.

With time almost up & Brighton looking to finish on a high James Clements had the last word as he intercepted Brighton's  final pass out wide to go in under the posts & converted by Jones-Davies.

Final Score 45-13
