Cobham Rugby

Welcome to the new season

A very warm welcome to the new rugby season.

Whether you are starting your rugby journey as an Under 5, playing VETS rugby or somewhere in-between, I hope that you enjoy the season both on and off the field.

Cobham is a volunteer managed rugby club and the facilities that we enjoy today have been built over many years due to the efforts of its volunteer members offering support and committing small amounts of time to do small things like car park duty, organising social events for the age group up to being a manager or a coach. All these roles, and the myriad others, are vital to the ethos and success of the Club.

I can testify to having made some lifelong friends through the medium of Cobham Rugby. If you don’t step up and do your bit then you cannot expect the Club to develop or thrive. If you see something that needs to be done then do it, otherwise it probably won’t get done! It is great fun and really rewarding for us all. We try and recognise the efforts of our best volunteers at the annual Volunteer Lunch, the awards at the annual Club Ball and via the Mitsubishi and other volunteer award schemes.

You should have received the Social Event Calendar which lists the pre match lunches, quiz night, race night and the Ball as well, of course, the date for the Halloween Spooktacular. These events are organised for the benefit of the whole Club and the Board would appreciate your active participation. Rugby is very much a social event off the field.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank our sponsors. We wouldn’t be the Club we are today without the continued support of Hurleys, Savills, Mundays and Baked and Battered as well as the smaller sponsors of festivals and other events. I would like to ask the members to think of them first when the need arises and reciprocate their support of your Club.

Finally, I need to remind everyone about their behaviour in the Cobham Rugby Club environment both on and off the field. We expect members to respect the officials and to treat the bar staff and the voluteers with respect at all times. The Board will take any transgressions very seriously with the ultimate sanction of course being suspension of membership.

I look forward to meeting many of you on the touchline on Sunday mornings or in the bar on either Saturday or Sunday, and hope that this season will be a success both on and off the field.
