This year’s Annual Ladies Lunch had a distinct feeling of lively, colourful chaos and a room filled with laughing (prosecco fuelled! ) madness as the theme was the Mad Hatters Tea Party. This was reflected in the bright colourful layout of the upstairs bar and the table decorations which included playing card centre pieces and home-made cupcakes made by Social Committee members .
Ladies were greeted with a complimentary glass of prosecco and canapés (courtesy of Vanilla Bean) and had time to browse the shopping stalls which included an array of handbags, jewellery, home decorations, beauty products and pop cakes.
The afternoon kicked off with a small speech of introduction by Caroline Hornby and included thanks to fellow committee members (Clare McQuade , Brigid van der Vorm , Jackie and Courtney and our token male participant, Jonny Payne )
Debbie Cragg gave a very moving tribute to Matt and publicised forthcoming charity events in support of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young ). Debbie has always been a leading lady at the lunches and continues to give us her support.
The stall holders had kindly donated prizes for the raffle, which was followed by a highly amusing and entertaining speech from our own head of Ladies Rugby, Vicky Alexander. Some in the room did not know Vicky but by the end of her speech they were all very well informed on ladies rugby and Vicky’s personal journey from player to brilliant inspirational coach. Of course what goes on tour stays on tour and so what is said in a speech at a Ladies lunch stays at a Ladies lunch!!!
The afternoon carried on well into the evening with photos being taken (and not remembered by whoever took them), but I think they speak for themselves!!
