200 up for Doug Rodman

Back row forward Doug Rodman is inline to make his 200th appearance for the 1st XV this Saturday (19 February) when the team take-on London Irish Wild Geese at Fairmile Lane, kick-off 2.30pm.

Doug joined the club during the 2010/11 season and made his debut on 12 February 2011 versus Hove; he has scored 41 tries in 199 appearances to date. Aside from being 1st XV / Club Captain during the 2012/13 campaign, Doug was also named Players’ Player of the Season.

Director of Rugby, Steve Pope paid the following tribute: “Douglas has always been and remains a very important member of the senior playing group. It is very hard to quantify just how valuable his contribution is to a club unless you have played with, coached or spent time with him. He really is a quality individual and player, managing a busy working and family life alongside playing as much as he can for whichever side he is selected for - long may it continue.”

“He may have lost a yard or two of pace but there is a level of commitment, physicality and work rate that has always been apparent to those playing with or against him, or for those having the pleasure of watching his combative nature week in, week out.”

“Old school I trust will not offend him, as it is very much a term of endearment; Doug really does embody all of the good things associated with a good man that loves his rugby and rugby values.

We are very fortunate to have him among our number and I hope there is plenty of rugby left on this willey old dog moving forward. Have a great 200th Douglas and I very much look forward to buying you a beer post-match.”

Club Chairman, Steve Heard added: “Doug continues to be a real stalwart of the 1st XV and broader Senior section and a true Club man. He trains mid-week with the same commitment and drive as he plays with on a Saturday and has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to the young players that come through our structure.”

"Thank you, Doug - enjoy your day, the beers afterwards and here’s to the next 50 appearances!!!”

Everyone is welcome to come and lend their support to Doug and the team this weekend. #OneCob
