The Sainte Dévote Rugby Tournament is a sporting event held in the Principality of Monaco, organised by the Monegasque Rugby Federation in partnership with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. The tournament invites Under 12 Rugby 7s teams from around the world to participate in a full day of competition and activities.
It started in 2009 and has evolved from year to year to become a benchmark for international rugby 7s, while promoting rugby values such as discipline, tolerance and respect.
Over the weekend of 25th and 26th April, Cobham Under 12s - made up of both Under 11s and Under 12s competed against teams representing 24 countries from around the world. They won their group on Day 1, scoring 14 tries to four, including beating NewZealand!
Match 1 - Cobham 4-3 Belgium
Match 2 - Cobham 2-1 New Zealand
Match 3 - Cobham 8-0 Georgia
On Day 2, Cobham advanced to the quarterfinals drawing two tries each against Belgium, but went through having won more matches. In the semi-finals, they ran in four tries against United States of America and then competed against a team from Montpellier, but would suffer a narrow 2-0 defeat to the French club.
This will have been a memorable weekend for all concerned and many thanks to the coaches who provided support, guidance and encouragement to enable the boys to reach the final.
Also thanks to the travelling support, those watching from home and the squads sponsors Russell Cooke, SPL Villas, CDB Claremont Surrey Foot Service and Virtual Tech Associates kit Supplier Akuma Sports.
