It is with deep sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the sudden passing of Sim Barnes, a much-loved member of the Cobham Rugby Club community.
Sim was an outstanding coach, mentor and friend whose passion for developing young players left a lasting mark on everyone he worked with. As our Coaching Coordinator and recent seasons focused on our Colts, he guided countless players through their formative years — always with care, ambition and belief in their potential. Sim didn’t just teach rugby — he taught life values, leadership and resilience.
Beyond Cobham, Sim’s coaching journey saw him contribute to elite programmes including London Irish and Harlequins Women, where his expertise, professionalism and warmth earned him admiration across the rugby world. He most recently served as Head Coach of Men’s Performance Rugby at the University of Surrey, continuing to shape the future of the game he loved.
Sim’s tragic death has shocked us all. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.
Sim will be remembered not only for his talent and achievements, but for his kindness, humility and the countless lives he enriched along the way. He leaves behind a legacy that will live on in the hearts of our club and beyond.
Rest in peace Sim 💙
