Last Friday (13 March) Active Surrey and Cobham RFC hosted a Year 3 and 4 and Year 5 and 6 tag rugby festival. Over the last five years this festival has grown from 10 school teams across all age groups, to over 30 school teams.
All competing teams had to be a mix of ages, gender and abilities. The day was organised with the RFU core values at the heart of everything both on and off the pitch.
This year’s festival also saw the biggest increase in female players by over 40%. There were over 360 tag rugby players; over 100 were girls. Additionally, over 100 of the boys that played do not play rugby outside of school.
A massive thank you to all the schools that took part and to Active Surrey, who organised the event. A huge thank you to Godalming College and Cobham Free School, whose sixth form students refereed throughout the festival.
Finally, a massive thank you also goes to Buffini Chao Foundation, who supplied all of the medals that the players received for participating.
